Kit Perrick Law, located in North Vancouver, very near Lonsdale Quay, is seeking an experienced Family Law Paralegal. This is an exciting opportunity to join a seasoned lawyer with an established family practice.
The ideal candidate is described as an organized and efficient legal professional to assist a busy solo practitioner and must have a minimum of 3-5 years of solid and recent experience in family law litigation.
Salary range: $80,000 – $90,000 annually, depending on experience.
The primary duties and responsibilities will include the following:
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work in a team setting and independently
• Communicate with client, opposing counsel or opposing parties and other third parties
• Familiarity with BC Supreme Court Family Rules
• Monitoring and reviewing e-mails
• Drafting correspondence and various pleadings
• Drafting chamber documents and Mediation Briefs
• Managing BF system for lawyer
• Organizing files and documents
• Preparing List of Documents
• Assisting with trial preparation
• Online filings and urgent Court filings
• Requesting and obtaining documents
• Providing clients with updates when needed
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
• Paralegal diploma or equivalent
• 3-5 + years of recent family law litigation experience
• Strong attention to detail, superior word processing, spelling, proofreading, and editing skills
• Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including all Microsoft Office products and billing software such as LEAP or PC LAW
• In-depth knowledge of legal terminology, court rules and procedures
• Capacity to perform duties with speed and accuracy
• High level of discretion and confidentiality
• Excellent command of the English language
• Ability to quickly modify work priorities to meet unexpected and sometimes competing deadlines
• Practical, detail-oriented, flexible and dedicated team player who can work independently.
• Versed knowledge of Supreme and Provincial Court Rules as well as the Court of Appeals to navigate court procedures, including filing deadlines
• Experience in the preparation and drafting of legal documents such as Notice of Family Claim, Affidavits, Requisitions, Orders, Desk Order Divorce, and client’s Financial Statements
• Experience in preparing for Trials
• A strong BF system and command of a lawyer’s calendar
• Conduct for the life cycle of files, ensuring knowledge of all files and that files are up to date

The primary duties and responsibilities will include the following:
• Provide accurate and reasonable legal advice and guidance to new and existing clients.
• Support Kit Perrick with their complex client matters, while also independently representing your own clients, which involves attending court, and/or alternative dispute resolution attendances.
• Liaise with lawyers, paralegals, legal assistants, clients, and other professionals to prepare materials for trials, applications, conferences, and other proceedings.
• Assist clients with preparing financial statements, affidavits, pleadings, and other legal documents.
• Research legal issues, and draft various legal documents including letters, pleadings, applications, briefs, and factums.
• Maintain frequent contact (and follow-ups) with clients throughout their legal process.
• Meet with potential new clients and assess their needs for legal representation.
The ideal candidate will possess the following :
• Law Degree with 1+ year experience
• LSBC Member in good standing
• Ability to regularly work from the North Vancouver office
